Secure PDF Viewer for Android devices released

Locklizard are pleased to announce the release of their secure PDF Viewer for the Android platform.  This is an exciting upgrade to Locklizard services delivering secure PDF documents to the mass market as well as to corporate users.

Locklizard have continued their strategy of downloading secured documents, thus allowing both better performance and offline usage.  So unlike other security products, the Locklizard secure Android Viewer is more secure, saves precious bandwidth, and does not use up valuable server resources.  Many Android solutions store protected documents on a remote server, decrypt them there, and deliver them page by page down a ‘secure’ connection.  Locklizard’s secure Android Viewer stores and decrypts protected PDF documents locally on the device (for all the same reasons Adobe does PDF on the PC).  Documents are decrypted in memory a page at a time to speed up processing and support devices with limited memory. Users are presented with a fully functional PDF document to view that does not take an age to render onto the screen.  As a result of decrypting directly in the device, performance is independent of network and other bottlenecks, and searches and so on can take place even if the network connection is lost.

The Locklizard secure Android Viewer is a completely new application, building on the look and feel of PDF document handling on that platform, taking secure PDF viewing to a new level.  It is designed as a standard Android App, and readily installs into that environment, cleanly integrating with file associations and file sharing environments such as Dropbox.  So users can enjoy the same Android methods and controls they are familiar with, and installing the Locklizard secure Android Viewer is just the same as installing any other App.

This means that publishers and Corporations who need to exert control over their IPR can now readily extend their reach and coverage to the Android tablet and mobile platforms.  Locklizard have integrated their highly granular DRM controls into the Locklizard secure Android Viewer, providing a similar level of protection as that on the Mac and iOS platforms.  This allows publishers to see the Android device as just another part of the standard infrastructure instead of having to program specifically for it or adjust their security strategies.  Licensing specific devices to use Locklizard protected files is fully implemented on Android platforms, as are controls such as start and finish dates, numbers of views, locking document usage to specific locations (IP address ranges), dynamic watermarking, logging document use, and so on.

In addition to enforcing its own DRM controls, the Locklizard secure Android Viewer will not run on devices that have been rooted or that have custom ROMs, since this could compromise security.

Locklizard’s secure Android Viewer supports versions 4.0 and above and is a free download from the Google Play store.
