Locklizard drags web, intranet and extranet security out of the dark ages and into the 21st century with the release of Lock Lizard Protector

Lizard Protector web content security without passwords

Date: June 15th 2006

It is finally time to ditch the useless password mechanisms that have been” protecting” web site portals, intranets and extranets for the last 20 years.  Whilst no one is under any illusion that passwords can be simply shared with others and only provide protection against casual observers, password protection has been in force in most companies as the de-facto standard.   Yet what security does it actually provide?

The answer is a false sense of security.  How do you know if a password you have given a user has not been given to others (either knowingly or unintentionally)?  If the password has not been compromised, how do you know the content itself has not been copied and saved to a new location?  The answer is simply, that you don’t.  Whilst some security systems track the IP address of the logged in user, users often log on with dynamically allocated IP address or sit behind a corporate firewall that only divulges the IP address of the firewall itself.  So it is hardly making the best of a bad situation to begin with.

Assuming you could solve the disclosing of passwords and the control of content, password are one huge management overhead – the number one request for helpdesk support is due to lost passwords.   Not to mention, keeping track to begin with of all users and their passwords.

However, there is now a simple answer to intranet, extranet and web portal protection with the launch of Lock Lizard Protector web content security.  Web administrators can now move into the 21st century with a system that not only does not rely on passwords for its protection but that also controls what authorized users can do with the content they have been allowed to view and for how long.

Complete granular control over individual pages, images, flash, etc. (rather than full access to a specific area of a site as in password protection) is controlled by the web administrator.  There is no need to have separate web areas for different groups of users as content can be protected for different users and groups of users no matter where it is stored.  Who views content, when it expires (if ever), and if it can be printed (and if so, for how many copies) is completely under the administrators control.

Locklizard Protector web content security completely supercedes weak password mechanisms by implementing US Government strength encryption and PKI based authentication.  There are no passwords to enter, forget, manage, or pass onto others.  And whilst Lizard Protector is based on PKI, publishers are not involved with issuing PKI keys or services, or any of the outrageously complex setup and costs associated with PKI implementation.

Locklizard Protector web content security encrypts files locally on the web administrators computer.  They are never accessible by Locklizard.  Users and access to content is managed with a simple to use web-based administration system.

Locklizard Protector web content security controls the use of a wide range of file types – HTML, HTM, JPG, GIF, TIF, PNG, TXT, CSV, SWF (Flash).  It even has built-in PDF to HTML and DOC to HTML converters so that you can protect your existing PDF and Word documents too.

Locklizard Protector web content security entry level pricing is just $3495 for a subscription license, with perpetual and own server licenses available.  More information can be found at the Locklizard Protector HTML Security home page.
