| | PROTECTOR ADMINISTRATOR - SECURING HMTL AND IMAGES This is an overview of how publishers create protected products (documents, web sites, e-learning courses, etc.) and administer users and licenses. If you are evaluating Lizard Protector, you need to follow all the steps on this page, including creating a customer account for yourself on the administration system so that you can view your protected content. Failure to do so will result in you not being able to view the content you have protected.
Please read Design Considerations before protecting any content.

STEP 1: Download and Install Lizard Protector Administrator

The latest software can be downloaded from here. Once you have downloaded the software, double-click on the .exe file to install it.
STEP 2: Register Lizard Protector Administrator Before you can start using the administrator software you must first register it. YOU NEED TO EMAIL US FOR A LICENSE CODE so we can create an account for you on our licensing system. The license file required for registration will then be emailed to you.

Click on the license file link and select the 'Open It' option. The administrator software will automatically connect to the Internet to register your license.
This will start the registration process and confirm your publisher record in the administration system. A message dialog confirms successful registration. You are now ready to start protecting your web content.
STEP 3: Protect your web content From the Windows Start menu, open the Lizard Protector administrator GUI (Start > Programs > LockLizard > Lizard Protector > Protect Content).
The following dialog will be displayed:

Select the appropriate access rights from the tabbed dialog. For detailed use, please refer to the product manual or use the help feature in each tab. On selection of the button, your files will be protected and the digital rights management controls you set will be applied. Your protected files will be saved to the folder you specified in the product settings output folder. Files protected with Lizard Protector Web Content Security are saved with a .hsf extension and will incorporate the original file extension in the new filename. For example, image1.gif will become image1-gif.hsf. This is so you can always tell the original file format of your protected files.
STEP 4: Generate customer licenses Once you have protected your files you need to create customer/user accounts on the administration system. Even the person protecting files needs a user account to view them.
1. Off the Windows Start > All Programs > LockLizard > Lizard Protector > Administrator menu select the Administration System to start generating user licenses.

This opens up a web page where you enter user names and email addresses by selecting the Create option in the left hand column of the Customer Accounts section.
2. Enter your name, email address, the number of licenses you require (1 license = 1 computer installation), and an end date (if you want the account to expire) or the unlimited button (if you don't want the account to expire). Then select the Add customer button.
3. The licensing system will automatically send an email - LockLizard Protector Viewer Installation and License information - to the email address you have entered above that contains the download details for the Viewer software and a Viewer license file to register. See below for more details.
4. Depending on the Access method you selected (All Customers, Individual Access, or a Publication) you may have to grant yourself access to the product you protected. If you selected 'All Customers' then you won't have to do this since you are automatically given access.
5. For each user that you want to view your protected products you must create a customer account for them.
STEP 5: Send protected products to your customers Now you are ready to send your protected products (collection of HSF files) to users by email or publish them on a CD-ROM, memory stick, or from your web site.
PROTECTOR SECURE VIEWER - VIEWING PROTECTED WEB PAGES This section explains how users view your protected web content. For a detailed description on using the Lizard Protector Secure Viewer please refer to the product manual.
STEP 1: Download and Install Lizard Protector Secure Viewer
The latest software can be downloaded from here. Once downloaded, double-click on the .exe file to install the software.

STEP 2: Register with your Publisher
Your publisher (the content owner) will have sent you an email containing your license file (protector_license.plv). The license file is contained in a zip file so that it does not get stopped by firewalls. Double-click on this zip file in your email application, select the 'Open It' option, and then the OK button. Then double-click on the protector_license.plv file. This will start the registration process and confirm your user record in the administration system. A message dialog confirms successful registration.

STEP 3: View the protected web content
Once you have registered you can double-click on an HSF file (file protected with Lizard Protector Web Content Security) in Windows Explorer.
Alternatively, you can copy and paste the URL of a protected file directly into the secure viewer's address bar, or just click on a link to a protected file in your browser.
The protected web content (HTML and images) is transparently decrypted and displayed in the secure viewer.

Once registered, any other products protected for you in the future will be transparently decrypted and displayed in the secure viewer - this process is totally transparent - you won't even realize they are encrypted. Decryption keys are transparently relayed to the client computer if you have been given access to view a protected product. If you do not have access to a protected product then a dialog box will be displayed with the publisher contact details and you will not be able to view the protected content.
